The Word
In Polish, "Mrok" means darkness.
But it's not just darkness as in the absence of light. It carries something more - a mood, a sense of mystery, a quiet tension. For many people, darkness means fear, danger, or the unknown.
For us, Mrok means curiosity. It means possibility.

The Mystery We Chose
We named our dog Mrok because we’ve spent most of our lives in places where light disappears - cave systems, deep wrecks, flooded tunnels. There, in the dark, we never felt fear. We felt excitement.
What’s behind the next corner? What waits beyond the shadow?
Mrok is the space where we find the unexpected - the quiet surprise, the forgotten object, the ancient structure.
For us, Mrok is not the enemy. It’s the invitation.

Mrok, the Dog
Our Australian Cattle Dog fits his name well. He’s smart, proud, alert - but also full of strange, joyful ideas. He makes us laugh. He makes us work. He keeps us on our toes.
And yes, sometimes he looks… intense. People see his face and pause. But then he smiles - and suddenly the whole “Mrok” lights up.
We hear reactions like:
“That name sounds dangerous.” “Why not something cute?” “Mrok? Like darkness?”
But when you meet him, it makes perfect sense.

More Than a Name
For dogs, sound matters. Mrok has a sharp, rolling “R” - something most English words don’t have. He hears it instantly. It cuts through the wind on a trail or the quiet at camp.
To us, the name Mrok is a small reflection of who we are: We like silence more than noise. Depth more than surface. Curiosity more than comfort.
Some dogs are called “Buddy” or “Jake.” Ours is called Mrok. Not better. Just… different.
