What does socialization at a place like a train station mean? We slowly lead Mrok on a leash to the station. We let him look around, sniff, and touch anything that catches his interest. We stay close but don’t interfere with how he explores. We don’t talk to him or pet him. We don’t want to create unnecessary dependencies. We let him watch people,

We drove home after dark. Little Mrok slept quietly on Monika’s lap. We glanced at each other, wondering what came next.

The couch example would work better like this: I calmly think: “Get off the couch.” I say: “Get off the couch.” (because that’s what I want) I turn away from the couch, showing with my body the direction Mrok can go. When all of that lines up, Mrok gets off the couch - every time.

We named our dog Mrok because we’ve spent most of our lives in places where light disappears — cave systems, deep wrecks, flooded tunnels. There, in the dark, we never felt fear. We felt excitement.

ACDs (...) they are like our Land Cruiser: his wheel may fall off, but it will not stop him and he will get us home.
